Since Basel is establishing itself as a growth center for budget airlines, carriers like Easyjet base their airline there rather than the Zurich Airport since it is more expensive. Easyjet has low-priced fares ranging from 100 plus. They also fly out of London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glascow, Gatwick, Heathrow, and Manchester. If you are looking for a low-priced holiday, check with Easyjet. Both low fares and available flights are in good supply.

The second biggest city in Switzerland is Basel which offers a tradition of scholarship and art since the days on the Renaissance. Prior evidence of this is that the city offers more than 24 museums for 200,000 residents. Basel’s location is on the Swiss border with France and Germany and both cultures influenced it.

Not a traditional Swiss ski town, Basel is filled with options for vacationers. As the cultural capital of Switzerland, you can and live and breathe art and culture. The Dolls House Museum on Barfusserplatz or the Swiss Architecture Museum in Steingberg or The Karikatur and Cartoon Museum are just a few of the options.

For seeing the sights, there are ample diverse options for doing this, such as the Cathedral, which is a dominating feat of the city. The Cathedral features red sandstone walls and twin towers. Explore Basels Old Town on foot so you wont miss any detail of the 15th century buildings as they mingle with modern works of international architects. Spalentor (Spalen Gate) is the most imposing of the three surviving city gates that date back to the 1400s.

Basel also provides official tour of the city and during Christmas the city will enthrall you with lights, trees, angels and fables of old Basel traditions.

The grandiose ruins dotting the Roman town of August Raurica and the invaluable treasures at the town museum provide you a glimpse of the busy life in the town in bygone days.

It is easy to combine shopping with sightseeing in Basel. Youll find luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Rolex. Shop for shoes, fashion, books and other specialties in small boutiques, antique shops and chic department stores.

If you like night life, Basel is a place for you. You could find all things ranging from cozy bars to wild parties and clubs.
